Job description - Assistant Manager

The successful candidate for our stores would be someone who is people oriented, self-motivated, dependable, and able to work effectively and safely in a fast-paced environment while maintaining 100% total customer focus.

The Assistant Manager assists the Store Manager and plans, directs, organizes, and implements the daily operational activities of our store. Dually responsible for the achievement of station objectives, the implementation of Company policies and procedures, staffing, merchandising, and maintaining CoGo’s high standards of customer service and safety. Adopts and demonstrates CoGo’s philosophies and standards regarding store operations, image, and personnel management.

Essential Functions

  • Provides exceptional customer service and ensure team does the same, including but not limited to, a pleasant greeting, smiling, making eye contact, soliciting additional sales, processing the transaction accurately, thanking the customer and inviting them to return.
  • Manages with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote CoGo’s values.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal & written communication skills, including the ability to professionally communicate to your team, customers, colleagues, management and vendors.
  • Ensure execution of established safety, security, quality, and CoGo’s policies, procedures, practices and programs.
  • Principal Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assist the Store Manager to manage day-to-day operation of the station. Duties include control and monitor store expenses and inventory, conduct mini-audits, computer entry, cleaning, maintenance, and customer relations.
  • Manage matters relating to the team. Duties include recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, developing, and performance management.
  • Assists Store Manager in special assignments or projects and keeps District Manager informed of store operations.
  • Performs all duties of store staff as required.
  • Must conduct themselves at all times, in accordance with the CoGo’s Code of Conduct.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by management.

  • Skills and Experience Include but Not Limited to:

Required:

  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Previous retail experience and/or customer service experience.
  • Available to work a variety of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays.
  • Available to work at surrounding locations.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ethical, honest, trustworthy, respectful, compassionate, supportive and patient.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and exercising good judgement.
  • Basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Must possess required up-to-date food handling certificates, as required by law (in specific locations only).
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and current automobile insurance.

Preferred:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous cash handling experience.

Physical Demands Include but Not Limited To:

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of times on hard and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to process information and merchandise through cash register system. Repetitive motion with hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
  • Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the store. Vision and depth perception is required.
  • Ability to bend, carry, push, pull, stoop, squat, twist or lift to stock merchandise and clean station in narrow spaces. Merchandise, equipment and cleaning supplies throughout the station generally weighing 0-50 pounds. Use of strong chemicals.
  • Ability to work unaccompanied at a rapid work pace for extended shifts of 12 hours or more, as assigned.
  • Periodic exposure to all outdoor conditions at all times of day.
  • Occasional exposure to prolonged periods in walk-in coolers at 34F.
  • May also experience extreme hot temperatures when operating store equipment.
  • Operate a motor vehicle in all local weather conditions.

Job description - CLERK

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Operate POS (cash register and fuel console) precisely and accurately handle money and other types of payment received for product sold.
  • Perform the following service transactions in accordance with company policy: credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, vendor check-in, alcohol, tobacco and lottery sales, and fast food sales.
  • Actively participate in all sales promotions and other campaigns. Practice suggestive selling and build customer relations. Be aware of sales goals and performance against those goals.
  • Review and adhere to all city, county, state, and federal laws affecting store operations.
  • Maintain a neat personal appearance and wear company uniform and nametag at all times.
  • Address customer complaints in a positive manner. Document complaints for follow up by Store Manager or Supervisor.
  • Preparation of hot food items in accordance with current procedures as designated by Store Manager. This may include preparing food, and maintaining condiment bar, monitoring fresh food availability, and other duties assigned by the Store Manager.
  • Ensure that the store is free of litter and spills and that all equipment is sanitized and free of dirt, as well as ensuring that all equipment is in working condition. Maintain a neat and clean store inside and out.
  • Straighten and organize backroom supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Face front and dust merchandise.
  • Receive product deliveries from vendors: move, sort, and stack cases. Stock shelves with new merchandise.
  • Conduct daily inspections of perishable products to check code dates (freshness) and proper rotation.
  • Check identification for alcohol, tobacco and lottery products according to company policy.
  • Follow company policy on robbery/violence prevention and safety. Review and adhere to store safety/emergency procedures – critical telephone numbers and incident reporting forms and protocol.
  • Perform regular cleaning of counter surfaces, store equipment, restrooms and other duties as assigned by Store Manager.
  • Participate in all store sales building, customer service, and team-building activities. • Live and exemplify CoGo’s Core Values.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for entire shift.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level.
  • Ability to bend at waist with some twisting during workday.
  • Ability to work with arms bent all day.

  • Ability to push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (i.e. utilizing a hand truck).
  • Ability to grasp, reach and manipulate objects with hands throughout workday; requires hand-eye coordination and may require bilateral coordination of hands.
